Ulysses
Another week has gone by with little activity. Wednesday last week was cold wet and miserable, Saturday morning saw a few turn up at Billy’s for a chat and both Saturday and Sunday were pretty much off the agenda for motorcycling. However this coming Sunday we have the annual pilgrimage to the Morundah Hotel where we meet with the Albury/Wodonga and MIA branches for a Barbecue style lunch at the grand sum of $25 each. Get there about 12 so we can socialise for a while before sitting down to eat. Last year the Wagga Branch mucked things up a bit by arriving late due to a timing error by yours truly. We will have raffle on the day with the proceeds going to UCARF.
The next Wagga Sunday ride will be on August 21st and will take us out to Bribbaree for lunch and then the next big ride event will be the Tri Branch weekend at Griffith on the 9th, 10th and 11th of September. Accommodation will be at the Griffith Caravan Village on Mackay Road which is 2 kilometres east of the town on the Leeton Road. Please phone the Caravan Park direct to make your booking. There are Cabins, Units and camping areas available. Phone on 6962 3785.
Our next Branch meeting is on Tuesday, August 16th at The Radio Club Rooms in Small Street. Doors open at 7:00pm and the meeting gets under way at 7:30pm. All persons welcome, Members, visitors and prospects. For further information phone our secretary on 0411 459 485 or the president on 0408 420 766. Any details on the Ulysses Club Inc can be obtained from the National Office, in Narellan, on 1300 134 123.
I came across these interesting facts the other day concerning Goulburn which is the largest City on the Southern Tablelands and Australia’s first inland City (1863). The Goulburn district lays claim to being the birthplace of motorcycle racing in NSW. In 1914 riders from NSW, Victoria and South Australia gathered for the very first Tourist Trophy Race in Australia. In 1924 the first Australian Grand Prix was held, covering a triangular circuit from the outskirts of Goulburn to Windellama, across to Bungonia and back to the Junction of the two roads. Goulburn is also home to Wakefield Park, named after it’s benefactor, Charles Cheers Wakefield the founder of Castrol. Wakefield Park holds many events each month (11 in August) the first being a ride day on Friday August 5th from 9:00am Phone 02 4822 2811 for further details.
Keep on keeping on and stay upright.
