Upset about the continuing assaults on France, parishioner Kay Humphreys asked Reverend Father Paddy Sykes to offer the regular Friday 5.45pm Mass “in solidarity with our French brothers and sisters”.
She then went about encouraging people with French roots to attend the Mass by contacting the owner of the Artisan Baker, Bernard Hoff.
Mr Hoff was so touched by the gesture he offered to supply cakes for a meal after the Mass, open to everyone.
Mrs Humphreys said her son, Patrick, was creating a sign carrying France’s national motto – Liberty Equality Fraternity – for the Mass.
