With the club’s archives having no record of their existence, there was some excitement when the two time capsules were retrieved.
First buried in March 1973 during the founding of the club, they were recently unearthed during the expansion works at the Fernleigh Rd location.
One of the founding directors Max Sydenham also had a hand in time capsules in the Civic Theatre and the city’s levee.
One of the capsules will remain closed until 2073 and placed on display in the club.
The second capsule will be opened on Friday July 1 which includes a quote from German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
