Wednesday, June 8 was a bleak, drear, cold and dismal day so the decision was made to stay home and enjoy the warm fire. However, 11 bods turned up for a coffee at Billy’s that morning and chatted for a couple of hours, only moving on to let the lunch time crowd in. 

It was good to see Alan Tye there looking well after a new range of treatment. Saturday morning was much the same and only a few came along to Meet and Greet, but Princess and Bob the Bugler were there  tucking into their customary muffins with great gusto. 

Sunday wasn’t a bad day and one or two small groups took advantage of a reasonably fine day and toured the district. It wasn’t an official club ride, but that doesn’t matter, go for a ride if the conditions are right and you can spare the time.  

This Sunday we will be heading to Culcairn to meet up with Albury Wodonga branch and then following them back to Wagga, where they will be putting on a barbecue lunch in the Botanic gardens.  There will be a small fee for our share of the tucker. 

The ride to Culcairn and other places will leave McDonalds Car Park in Edward Street, at 9.30am. Wednesday rides also leave from Billy’s at 9.30am.

Our next branch meeting is at the Radio Club Rooms in Small Street, at 7.30pm Tuesday, June 21. We will have a complimentary cauldron of hot soup on hand to warm you up.

Next Monday, June 20 is the International Ride to Work Day.  This was started in the US 25 years ago by a not-for-profit organisation to recognise the motorcycle as a means of transport and its importance in the community.  Last year there were 8 million bikes took part in the US and an estimated 1 million in other parts of the world.

So next Monday ride your bike to work and if you don’t work, like me on the scrap heap, then ride to the shops, doctor, dentist, psychiatrist, or local coffee shop.

Vets news, and last Monday’s nine-hole 4BBB stableford event was taken out by the team of Kevin Wales and Bob Moore, who notched up 26 pts to get home from Peter Kirkman and Tony Pollard, and Hedley Chapman and Tony Thompson, 25 pts on a c/b.

Thursday’s vets stableford event went to John Burkinshaw with 25 pts, from Tony Brunskill, Peter Kirkman and Don Painter 24 pts, followed by Danny McIntyre and Roy Sanders on 23 pts. There’s no doubt the ladies copped the worst of the weather during what was a very wet week, with both their comps being reduced to just nine holes. Una Pocock handled Tuesday’s conditions well for a respectable 41 nett in the stroke event, a shot better than Gloria Vonarx, with Betty Bruckner taking third place with 42 ½ nett, while Denise Avramovic topped the putting comp with just 12 putts.

Friday’s stableford comp saw another small field, and it was Denise Avramovic’s turn to master the dreadful conditions as she put together 17 hard-earned points to collect the main voucher.

The boys were fortunate to miss most of the wet stuff when they competed in a 4BBB Stableford event last Wednesday.

Winners on the day were Peter Friedlieb and Kerry Smith, who carded 44 pts, to share the top prize, from runners-up Bob McKenzie and Grahame Winson, 42 pts.

The NTP’s were collected by Max Horsnell, Peter McDonald and Roman Adamcewicz, while the ball comp went to teams with 40 pts on a c/b, or better.

Members returned for a stableford event on Saturday, and Roman Adamcewicz kept his recent good form going when he won the A Grade event with 39 pts, three clear of low-marker, Mick Hazell, 36 pts, and John Dare 33 pts on a c/b.

In B Grade, Kyle Harrison scored 37 pts for a clear win from Luke Taberner 34 pts, and Zac Nimmo 31 pts on a c/b.

Tim Harris played to his handicap for 36 pts and a win in the C Grade event, from Graeme Coulton, 35 pts on a c/b from Mick Buckley, also on a c/b.

NTP’s to Mick Avramovic, Roman Adamcewicz and Mick Buckley. Ball comp to 30 pts on a c/b.

Mick Avramovic again mastered the heavy conditions in Sunday’s nine-hole stableford with a solid score of 22 pts, for a three-shot win from Gary Rake and Kyle Harrison, each with 19 pts. 

Wednesday blind draw pairs winners: Jim Carroll, Don Anderson 26 points; runners-up Chris Leonard, Mile Knezevic 24 points; 3rd place Mick Foxall, Barry Ingram 19 points.

Friday nominated pairs winners: Paul Fitzgerald, John Hetherington 21 points; runners-up Barry Breust, Jeff Post, Kevin Wales 20 points, 3rd place Ron Smith, Doug Kinder 19 points. Saturday blind draw winners: Dennis Rawlings, Bob Robertson, Don Anderson 21 points; runners-up Mick Foxall, Norm King 20 points; 3rd place Henry Sperrin, Richie Mounro 19 points.

This Saturday is the final day of the junior tennis competitions at the Forest Hill courts.

In the event of wet weather the presentations will take place at the start time of 3pm instead of the 4.30pm presentation time.

The masters competition is for players wanting more serious tournament play, with proper tie-breaker sets being played.

There is prize money for the top 20 players in the competition for all players having played five matches, as well as a best and fairest award. To take part, just turn up at the start time of 3pm until 5pm.    

The masters competition leader is Caden Maxwell on 47½ points over Oliver Plum on 44 points close behind Reece Rutland on 39½ points then Lara Plum on 26½ points and Karnie Spalding on 23½ points making up the top five places.

The junior tennis competition is open to all juniors wanting to play tennis in a friendly relaxed format, and is their first steps to playing competition. All players should be able to serve to take part. There will be trophies to all players having played at least five matches. As well there is a special best and fairest award presented at the end of the competition. This competition starts at 3pm to 5pm.

In the junior tournament leading is Mitchell Spalding on 52½ points with Tory Grantham on 35½ points ahead of Lachlan McDonald on 28 points then Dylan Haisell on 24 points with Larissa Wyatt on 16½ points.

Wednesday am blind draw saw the team of Peter Jenkinson, Lance Cornish and Frank Boyd come away winners with a score of 161/2, from Alan Brentnall and Maurice Sheridan with 121/2.

Wednesday pm nominated pairs winners were Brian Lawrence and Bruce Mathew with 141/4, from Ron Smith and Doug Kinder on 133/4

Third prize money went to Dennis Knight and Ian Lewis on 13¼. The Major Jackpot was not won.

Sunday morning social bowls went to Ken Hamilton and Betty Stockly with 26, from Bob Hale, Wal Paton and Trish Whyte with a score of 111/2.

The shoot on Saturday at Lockhart was in very cold conditions with a strong breeze from the south switch direction regularly.  Difficult conditions for our John Westblade Trophy.

The winner was David Xuereb with a great shoot in the difficult conditions. 

Next week’s shoot will be a 800 Yards. Bring some extra rounds for some team shooting practice.
