More than 200 riders and their horses were in Wagga last weekend for the annual Wagga Horse Trials at Charles Sturt University.
The event was declared a resounding success as riders took part in dressage and showjumping on Saturday, before tackling the cross country course on Sunday.
Wagga Horse Trials Club president Kristy Watson hopes they can continue to move forward.
“We have been building this event for the last four years to the point where we are now attracting high quality riders from around the place, as well as still catering for the lower grades coming through the ranks,” Watson said.
“The only thing holding us back is the amount of space for camping at CSU.
“We had to knock back 50 entries this year.”
Sam Lyle, Natalie Blundell, Hamish Cargill and Annabelle Armstrong were some of the standout performers.
Tania Harding was the best of the locals, coming first in the one star division.
Watson said the weekend was very well received from competitors.
“We got a lot of good feedback about the all weather arena on Saturday and how good things were after all the rain we have had,” Watson said.
“We had some really talented riders there, people who have competed at a very high level so it was nice to attract that level of rider.
“The whole weekend was great. The weather was beautiful and the horses liked the softer going, it was good for them to be galloping on.”
There was only one fall and a rider was taken to hospital where they were given the all clear.
The riding action out at CSU’s Equine centre continues this Sunday with a dressage event, that will attract about 80 riders.
