Without Paige Colenso, Tameka Scott, Hannah Finemore, Olivia Tilyard, and coach Rosemary Clarke, Uranquinty made an impressive start with the seven they used on Saturday.
Abbey Morton, who’d already played a full game in A Reserve, was used in the goalkeeper position and used her height to continually intercept and rebound successfully.
Lana Duffy and Ella Finemore combined well in the shooting circle and by half-time had shot Uranquinty to an eleven goal advantage, despite the close attention of the Stars defenders, Ruby Gooden and Sarah Crackanthorp, who, like Uranquinty’s Morton, had just played four quarters in the A Reserve match.
The contest was closer in the second half, with Uranquinty adding another 28 goals to their half-time tally, while the Stars goaled another 26 times.
Stars’ players, Michelle Forrell and Hayley Stevens worked well in centre court, while former Uranquinty player, Stacey Curran shot some fine goals.
Looking at the lineup, one could almost say it was a top ‘family effort’ by the Uranquinty side.
The Stars will look to have their first win for the season when they meet Kooringal in the next round, while Uranquinty will meet Turvey Park in the other fixture.
Meanwhile, another win to defending premiers New Kids Aces suggests they’ll be hard to beat in this year’s premiership race.
The Aces were clinical in beating Kooringal 65-19.
