It comes as furious locals continue to find dumped furniture, rubbish, clothes and white goods, with council receiving almost 10 complaints of illegal dumping each week.

Wagga Tidy Towns chair John Rumens condemned the most recent dumping of multiple mattresses, a wood heater, bags of clothes and mounds of junk on the side of Keajura Road, Ladysmith, at the weekend. 

“We’re disappointed to hear it yet again,” he said.

“Dumping is willful, not thoughtless. It’s a selfish view of the world, thinking that we can do this and someone else will clean it up. It’s annoying these citizens don’t do the right thing and leave it to someone else to clean up.”

Just last week, Mr Rumens phoned council rangers after discovering old white goods dumped on Vincent Road, Lake Albert. 

It follows a long history of similar dumpings across Wagga public spaces, including Brick Hill Reserve near the Eunony Bridge on the river's south bank and McNickle Road near Pomingalarna Reserve.

Since July 1 last year, Wagga City Council has received 364 reports of illegal dumping.

It is a staggering figure that has seen council’s budget of $95,000 for clean up and disposal already be exceeded for the 2015/16 financial year.

Council’s regulatory services manager Greg Minehan said while the majority of Wagga residents did the right thing by utilising kerbside collections or the Gregadoo tip, the cost of cleaning up illegal dumping was “significant”.

“Illegal dumping is an environmental crime and poses serious risk to human health and impacts local amenities,” Mr Minehan said.

“Combating illegal dumping is a whole-of-community approach. If residents witness an illegal dumping activity they should report the incident as soon as possible.”

Mr Minehan stressed it was far cheaper to dispose of waste at the tip than cop a fine of up to $4000 for illegal dumping.

He pointed to initiatives, such as quarterly free tip days, year-round free disposal of e-waste at Gregadoo and Kurrajong and bi-annual free chemical waste clean up days as steps council has taken to combat illegal dumping.
