DOWN to the ignoramus that had lunch at the Storehouse Cafe on Baylis Street on July 12 while using his mobile phone.

Your loud voice never endeared yourself to anyone who was trying to enjoy a meal at this cafe. The conversation went on for about 20 minutes at a conservative 96 decibels. None of the people in your vicinity will ever need to go to Hong Kong, as we heard all about the accommodation, restaurants – all of which you seemed to have used – bars and transport. Then, we had to hear all about the trip into Victoria – which was not the least bit interesting – and the footy show about Eddie McGuire. Brendon Fevola was even less interesting. Next time do you think you show a bit of consideration for the other diners? Judging by your actions I think this would be beyond your understanding. You might ask how I know all this? I was sitting at the next table. (Contributed)
UP to Adel Soloman of the St George Family Medical Centre for all his care and support. This is a man who genuinely cares about his patients. (Contributed)
DOWN to Wagga City Council for placing a picnic table outside Harris Park in Mount Austin without bothering to replace the bin that was removed. No wonder rubbish gets dropped there. Bring back the bin now. (Contributed)
DOWN to the morons in Mount Austin and Turvey Park who allow their dogs to walk freely while the owner carries the lead. Come on Wagga City Council, get onto them. Put a ranger on after hours and the fines will more than cover the costs. (Contributed)
DOWN to Wagga City Council for not enforcing the no skateboarding and bike riding on footpaths laws in the main street. I hope you have plenty of public liability insurance because it is only a matter of time before some poor, unsuspecting pedestrian gets badly hurt by one of these law-breakers. Maybe by fining them you could raise enough money to install CCTV cameras to catch even more people doing the wrong thing. (Contributed)
DOWN to the parents who don’t make their children wear helmets when riding bikes. Surely you at least make them wear a seatbelt in the car? If you watched the news you would realise that falling to the ground and hitting your head can be fatal. Also down to those adults, who should know better, that refuse to wear helmets. Brain damage is forever. You don’t look cool, you look like a fool. (Contributed)
UP to the police for pulling these idiots over and fining them. (Contributed)
DOWN to the drivers of all ages who think it is OK to use a mobile phone while stopped at traffic lights, especially near Wagga High School, Bourke Street and Best Street, then hold up traffic when they don’t realise the lights have changed. These same people then continue to drive slowly down the road still on the phone or looking down texting. People know what they are doing is wrong but they still do it. I don’t think it is just young drivers. I have noticed middle age tradies and mums with young kids in the car are the worst offenders. (Contributed)
UP to Aldi for its fantastic alcohol section. The prices you offer are just unbelievable. After travelling through Europe I realised just how expensive alcohol was to buy in Australia. Whether it is all the ridiculous taxes the government imposes on alcohol sales in the hope of recouping the money it is losing, or the insane mark up that bottleshop owners put on their items, we are paying huge amounts to enjoy a beverage. In Europe, alcohol is sold at supermarkets at a fraction of the price we pay over here. Beautiful Spanish and French wine is available for the equivalent of $2 Australian dollars. It is fabulous. I never thought we would see those type of prices in Australia, but I was wrong. Thanks to Aldi we have access to a great range of wines, spirits, mixed drinks and beer for significantly less than you will pay anywhere else. A cartoon of beer for about $20, wine for $2 a bottle and refreshing moscato for $3. Thank you, Aldi. Finally Australians can afford to host a party, family gathering or old fashioned barbecue again. UP to The Leisure Company Fundraising Committee for its fantastic trivia night at The Grange Community Centre recently. We had a great night out with our friends. The questions were a little bit difficult, but we enjoyed the challenge. The decorations created a wonderful spooky atmosphere and added interest to the night. I was impressed by the number of people who dressed up and the effort they had put into their excellent costumes. The marker dressed as Dracula was by far my favourite. This was my first visit to The Grange and I was blown away by this terrific venue. It is such a huge space and the mix-and-match furniture works so well in the room. I hope everyone gave generously and the committee raised plenty of money for their worthy cause. I am sure they did. (Contributed)
UP to Ted. Easily one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Yes, it is crude and rude, but it is genuinely laugh-out-loud comedy. I just loved it. Not for conservative goody-goodies, but one for everyone else. Enjoy. (Contributed)
UP to Knights Meats for the Terry’s Meat Packs. These packs are great value for money and make feeding a large group affordable and easy. There are very few butchers that offer these sort of prices on such a great range of meat packs. (Contributed)
Up to the young lad who arrived at my place on Wednesday afternoon with my wallet, which had been stolen along with my phone on Sunday. When he found it and showed his mother, she said it would be a good idea to bring it to me. My identity and cards were intact, but of course, the money was gone. To the mother, thank you. You can be very proud of your son. To the lad, a big thanks, you are the future of our community. Not only I, but Wagga can be proud of you. (Contributed)
UP and a huge thank you to the following medical people for their professional care and assistance following my recent illness. My family doctor, Dr Anton, Dr Edward Jai, Wagga Base Hospital, along with Dr McBreedy and Dr Meator. Also to the ambulance officers and all the nursing staff. You have all been wonderful in your dedication to duty. (Contributed)
UP to Usain Bolt for his win in the 100 metres at the London Olympics, and to his rivals for providing the highlight of the Games. Usain is a once-in-a-lifetime athlete. Watching him cruise to victory in Olympic record time so effortlessly is something that words cannot adequately describe. His sheer joy and excitement was uplifting. I had goosebumps watching him celebrate. A true champion. (Contributed)
