Angels for the Forgotten was founded in Wagga by Melina Skidmore in December, 2010, to support children, teenagers and families in crisis.
Until now, hardworking volunteers have funded the charities three major programs with small fundraising initiatives including barbecues, visits to local markets and the organisation’s $2 Tuesday campaign, and money from their own pockets.
“We have now reached a point where the bank balance is basically zero but we don’t want to have to start turning people away,” Melina said.
“We need funds and we need them now.
“We provide assistance to multiple services that are being inundated with people.
“Winter is always an especially tough time and we see a huge increase in the number of people who need support.”
Angels for the Forgotten will hold a Christmas in July themed trivia night on Saturday night at the Wagga RSL Club from 7pm.
Entry is $100 for a table or 10 or $15 per person for the event and places can be booked right up until Saturday by emailing admin@angelsfortheforgotten.org or calling 0449 979 910.
Raffles and auction items will also be available on the night, and there will be prizes for the brainiest group, the team best dressed capturing the Christmas theme and lucky door prizes.
Participants are being encouraged to bring along donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, cleaning products, socks or pyjamas to the trivia night for use in the organisation’s crisis packs.
Melina said the charity is still gratefully accepting donations of prizes for the night, which can be dropped at the services home at 63 Baylis Street between 10am and 2.30pm Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
