DIAMONDS are said to be a girl's best friend, but there is a group of Wagga boys who also think they are tons of fun.
In their case, it's a softball diamond which provides the source of entertainment.
James Scott, 11, and Andrew Cottee, 12, are among 20 youngsters who take part in the boys competition at the Jock Currie Softball Complex at French Fields on Saturdays.
"Playing softball is a great way to have fun," James said.
James and Andrew were always destined to be softballers.
"They have both had family members who played softball and were dragged around the diamonds from very early ages," James' mother Veronica Scott said.
Veronica coaches the boys Blue team in which Andrew is a pitcher and catcher. James is in opposition to his mum as the pitcher for the Red team.
Taking their softball involvement to another level, James and Andrew are also base umpiring for the girls competition.
The boys train on Wednesday nights and play at 12.30pm on Saturdays, with games resuming early next month.
Any boy aged between 8 and 14 who is keen to play softball should contact Veronica on 0404 892 695 or Jackie Walsh on 0405 397 987.
