Anzac honour

14 Apr, 2010 11:16 AM
THE sacrifices made by those who have fought for their country will be honoured at a Wagga sporting event to coincide with a special date on the Australian calendar.

Sporting Shooters Association of Australia’s Wagga branch will hold its Anzac Day Shoot on April 25 and provide a valuable contribution to Legacy in the process.

Wagga Legacy will receive all money raised at the Big Springs Rifle Range south of Wagga, which will host SSAA and licensed target shooters from 1pm.

Highlighting the day will be the use of Lee Enfield 303s – historic service rifles as issued and used during World War I and II.

“We used to have informal shoots at the range before deciding last year to have a major event,” SSAA senior vice-president Greg Hannon said.

“It was such a success we will do the same again this year.

“The focus is to recognise the sacrifice made by men and women of the Australian Armed Forces, who served their country in all wars.

“We want to celebrate the legend of the Anzacs and their Lee Enfield rifles."

The top three competitors on the day will receive medals and a perpetual trophy will go to the winner.

Ammunition on the day will be supplied at a cost of $10, normal range fees apply on the day and a $5 donation will be charged for finger food and refreshments after the shoot.

Members of the public are invited to watch the action and find out more about the club.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Greg on 0418 463 480.
