Hit the road

JOHN Kent has not quite been everywhere, but he still have an impressive travel history thanks to his four-wheeel drive.

Cape York, Fraser Island and the Simpson Desert have been holiday destinations for John, who is a stalwart of the Wagga 4WD Club.

“It’s all beautiful country and I feel lucky to have been there,” John said.

The Charles Sturt University employee was keen “to do things properly” to reduce safety risks when he went off road, so he joined the Wagga 4WD Club.

“It was a case of enjoying the bush, camping and other activities, and I wanted to learn how to learn to drive a four-wheel drive properly,” he said.

“Being a member of the club has built up my skill level and confidence, allowing me to go place I would not have gone otherwise.” John will be among the qualified four-wheel drive trainers giving demonstrations at the club’s family activity day on Sunday.

Held at the quarry behind the old Shanty Hotel off River Road, the event will run from 9.30am to 4pm.

“We will show people how to extract a vehicle from a bog, how to prepare a vehicle for the bush, how to go up and down a steep slope safely and how to winch a vehicle,” John said.

The public is welcome to enjoy the experience, with more information available from Joe on 6925 1368.
