FEW team-mates in any Wagga sporting competition have a bond similar to Megan Carter and Lyn Stewart.
Megan and Lyn line up for Rosellas in women's hockey, while they are also preparing to play for Australia in the same veterans team next year.
"We are a couple of old girls keeping our hands in when we are playing for Rosellas," said Megan, a 53-year-old physical education teacher at Kooringal High School.
Megan and Lyn will wear the Australian colours in the over 50s at the three-Test Trans Tasman series against New Zealand in May.
They gained selection when they played alongside fellow Rosellas member Michelle Morrison in the NSW team at the Australian Women's Veterans Hockey Championships in Hobart.
It was a memorable tournament for Wagga, which was also represented by Helen Lansdown and Corenne Ellis in the gold medal-winning over 55s team.
Nerves are unlikely to be a factor for Megan leading up to her appearances for Australia as she has already played for her country more than 20 times.
"I enjoy the challenge of competing at that level," said Megan, whose endurance has enabled her to play hockey for 42 years.
Megan will step out for Australia again next July in the over 45s at the International Masters in Nottingham, England.
The tournament, involving 12 countries, will be run in conjunction with the women's Champions Trophy
"Getting selected in these teams gives a great opportunity to travel," she said.
