Bright future

WAGGA raced a fantastic race meeting on December 4, with crowd numbers well up and a large number of new faces on course.

The meeting kicked off in unusual fashion, with the first race held up for a couple of minutes when one of the roller doors on the back of the boxes became jammed.

Quick thinking from starter Rob Campbell got the problem fixed and punters cheered when the well-supported favorite Joydon $3 saluted for Oura trainer Tia Robertson.

Four heats of the Wagga Allgas Dash For Cash were run.

Heat winners Osti’s Great $3 for Cootamundra’s O’Keefe Family, Wallendbeen conditioner Jason Wilson took out a heat with Our Jessie $3 and Wimbaliri $3.60 for Junee trainer Pete Scott and Motown Muscle $1.90 for Wagga’s Scooter Sutherland have earned places in the final.

Motown Muscle was posted at $3.50 in the betting ring early and the bookie was nearly knocked off his stand in the rush.

Wagga trainer Brian Honey has been a very successful trainer for over 50 years all over NSW, and again came to the fore taking out the nights feature event the TAB Number 1 Maiden final with Southernvale $7.90.

This was an amazing price when you consider Southernvale was a big winner in one of two heats the week before.

Other winners on the night were Wyndham Rocky $10.70 for Gerry Malloy and Wanalta Bay $5.70 for Victorian Barry Martell.

Wagga trainer Gary Mitchell also found the winners circle with Flash Knocka $3.70.

Bruce Williams continued his winning streak at Wagga with Spark Driver at the juicy odds of $22.70.

There is no doubt by the many smiling faces around the course that punters finished in front which is great to see.

Meanwhile, nominations close next Wednesday December 14 at 9am with GRNSW for the final meeting of 2011 at Wagga on December 18th.

It will be an historic night as this race meeting will mark the Wagga Clubs 50th TAB Meeting.

Plans are well under way at Wagga to make 2012 the biggest year of Greyhound Racing in the clubs history.
