HIS mother was unable to achieve the feat, while his older brother met a similar fate.
Now it’s up to He’s A Sunlit to provide trainer Peter French with a chance to claim the $6000 Wagga Gold Cup final next Monday.
Peter has previously had two Cup final runners, with He’s A Sunlit’s dam Sunlit Waters and half-brother Sunlit Blues both finishing fourth “Hopefully this will be third time lucky,” Peter said.
“He’s A Sunlit is only a rough chance, but it’s still been a big effort to make the final.”
Peter has enjoyed significant success in 10 years as a greyhound trainer – particularly with members of He's A Sunlit's family – but said a Wagga Cup win would be “something special”.
“I get a buzz out of winning any race, but the Wagga Cup is one I’d really love to win,” he said.
He’s A Sunlit qualified for the rich event with a solid third in a Cup heat at Wagga’s TAB meeting on Sunday.
Peter was hoping to have two chances in the Cup but Sunlit Bird narrowly missed out, finishing fourth in her heat.
In a shock result, star attraction Dana Beatrice also failed to obtain a spot in the final.
The winner of the $150,000 Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park finished third in the same event as Sunlit Bird, clocking a slower time than the other heats.
Wagga trainers will have a huge hand in the final.
Margaret and John Hartley’s representative Brady’s Wish is in flying form and broke the 30-second mark with a commanding win in a heat.
Rod Oakman will make a dual assault with Uno It and Colour In, while the respected Barry Hull’s hopes rest with Uno Bill.
Wagga Greyhound Club has a huge day planned for the Gold Cup meeting, which will be held on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday.
The fixture will carry $20,000 in prizemoney, with full bookmaker and TAB facilities on course. Betting vouchers will be given away during the meeting and a free jumping castle will be a feature for the under 12s.
