Christian College stuns its opponents

16 Jun, 2010 01:55 PM
IT’S not quite the World Cup, but Wagga Christian College open boys soccer team has thrilled its fans throughout Wagga after three stunning wins secured it a place in the grand final of a local soccer championship.

The boys demolished their opponents on the way to

the grand final, which was being played yesterday afternoon.

A 3-1 defeat of Mt Austin High and a 3-0 defeat of Mater Dei Catholic College gave the team a confidence boost.

The team then went on to defeat competition favourites Wagga High, 1-0, to secure the grand final berth.

Coach Boyd Harley said he was proud of the boys’ efforts.

“The team’s commitment and intensity is winning them games,” he said.

“They are talented players, but more significantly, they play well together and are committed as a team.”

The team’s captain, Zach Poulos, was also last year’s

NSW Country Soccer captain for his age group and was

thrilled with his team’s success so far.

“We enjoy playing together and have been really pleased to let Wagga see that we have talent and character on the soccer field,” he said.

Wagga Christian College played The Riverina Anglican College in the grand final yesterday afternoon as The Leader went to press.
