RACHEL Croft fully understands Spanish, even though a word is never spoken.
Her close mate is her gelding named after the language spoken in Spain and she knows all of the chestnut thoroughbred's little idiosyncrasies.
"He has a few funny habits but most of the time he is a good boy," Rachel said.
Rachel's interest in horses led her to joining forces with Bronwyn Phillips to revive the Charles Sturt University Equestrian Club.
The CSU club has linked with the Riverina Equestrian Club and has quickly built up a membership of 40.
"Each year we try to hold a few events, such as information seminars, riding clinics and social events," said Rachel, an animal science student at CSU.
The equestrian club is not restricted to CSU students or people who own a horse.
"Anyone with an interest in horses - whether they have one or not - can join," Rachel said.
"We group participants in our seminars and courses from lower to top level in ability, so everyone is catered for."
Next on the agenda for the CSU Equestrian Club is a Peter Gillis Eventing Clinic on September 25 and 26.
"On the Saturday will be flat work and jumping lessons, while on the Sunday there will be cross country tips given on the CSU course," Rachel said.
