SEXUAL assault is usually in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
But the subject will be in the spotlight in Wagga for a different purpose this week when the city takes part in a day of action against sexual assault.
The day commemorates both victims and survivors of sexual assault and those who have worked with and for survivors.
Wagga Women’s Health Centre will have a stall at the Marketplace today to promote the day, while banners will also be displayed outside the centre’s base in Morrow Street.
The event provides a reminder that sexual assaults occur in the community and also highlights the services which are available in Wagga.
“There will be information at the stall for adult survivors and their supporters and also general information on sexual assault,” Wagga Women’s Health Centre’s Mary Coughlan said. “We will also be displaying artwork done by adult survivors, giving us a symbol of hope.”
Sexual assaults occur when a person is forced, coerced or threatened into sexual acts against their will.
