Wagga group proves lifesaver for animals

28 Apr, 2010 03:55 PM
MOUNT Austin resident Janey Adams is a lifesaver.

Janey is among the members of Wagga Animal Rescue (WAR), which each year gives hundreds of domestic animals a second chance by re-homing them.

The scientist at Charles Sturt University currently has four foster dogs in addition to two pets of her own, making for a busy household.

"It gives you a great feeling when you see a foster dog go to a new home," she said.

"To know you have helped saved their lives is really satisfying."

WAR president Linda Burgess said a lot of work is involved in adopting out the animals.

"The younger dogs are relatively easy to find a home for, but the older ones or larger breeds and cats can be a lot tougher," she said.

WAR is a not-for-profit organisation which relies heavily on memberships and donations.

The group will hold a major fundraiser with a barbecue at Petbarn on Edward Street from 9.30am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

A number of rescued animals will be on show for the public to meet at the barbecue.
