A UNIQUE motor rally is expected to turn plenty of heads when it sets off for a charity fund-raising run next month.
The first Country Hope Fund-Raising Vintage Tractor Trek, supported by the David Brown Tractor Club and Wagga Historic Engine Club, will make its way around the Riverina on a 15 day journey in the hopes of raising money to support sick children and their families.
Trek co-ordinator Neil Cole has set his sights high to make the trek one of the biggest in Australia covering a distance of 1007km.
"Mostly treks are done for the entertainment of the entrants, but I thought why not do something for the kids and raise money for Country Hope," Mr Cole said.
"All the money stays in the local area."
Planning for the trek has taken seven months to complete, with Mr Cole intent on making the event a highlight for the region.
Tractor Treks are a growing trend among tractor and machinery enthusiasts with the biggest being the Great Snowy Mountains Tractor Stampede run at Bega annually.
"It's only a 500km one over four days.
"This one will be first of its kind here and of this magnitude."
So far eight vintage tractors have been registered for the event, including a David Brown, Chamberlains, Fordson Dexter and a Massey-Ferguson, with drivers coming from as far as South Australia, the North Coast and Bega.
The trek itinerary leaves from Wilks Park in Wagga on Saturday, March 3 travelling through Albury, Tocumwal, Berrigan and Lockhart during week one with the second week moving through Lockhart, Narrandera, Ardlethan, Ariah Park, Cootamundra, Temora and Junee before returning to Wagga.
Along the way scheduled stops have been made for the tractors to be displayed, which Mr Cole hopes the community will attend to donate money to Country Hope.
