WORDS will be few but the memories many when Bicycle Wagga Wagga members pay a special tribute to Carol Raadgever on Sunday.
Carol’s partner Bruce Golding is included in the group taking part in the Ride Of Silence, a worldwide event which marks the tragic loss or injury of a cyclist in an accident involving a motor vehicle.
This year’s ride will touch the hearts of the Wagga riders rocked by Carol’s death as a result of injuries received in a cycling accident at Easter in 2009.
“Carol made so many friends through Bicycle Wagga Wagga,” said Bruce, who was riding with his partner on a road near Rutherglen when the accident occurred.
“She loved going on as many of the group’s organised rides as she could, while she had other friends who would head out on their bikes with her at different times.”
Bruce is a semi-retired farmer at Lake Cargelligo who became a Bicycle Wagga Wagga member seven years ago through his association with Carol.
“I enjoyed riding socially but Carol was keener and more determined than me when it came to cycling,” he said.
“When we were not in Wagga or Lake Cargelligo we were travelling the world – and riding bikes was an important part of our trips.
“We would hire bikes and have a lot of fun ... when we went to South America we spent 10 or 11 days riding around.
“On other trips we rode in Vietnam, Cambodia and The Netherlands.”
“We would also go away on holiday rides in Australia, visiting different areas in New South Wales and Victoria.”
