Platypus makes waves on lake

24 Mar, 2010 11:54 AM
WHAT do you get when you cross a car with a boat?

The answer is the Platypus - a vehicle you can drive from one side of Wagga to the other and then enjoy a cruise on Lake Albert.

Joseph Safour turned plenty of heads when he took his mate Sean O'Donnell's amphibious vehicle from San Isidore for a trip around the lake.

"It felt weird to be driving on the road one minute and then on the water the next," Joseph said.

"The vehicle attracted a lot of attention ... there were crowds of people around it wanting to know all about it and taking pictures.

"What surprised me was how well it handled on the road and its capabilities on the water."

Sean towed the vehicle close to 1000 kilometres from Tara in Queensland in order to see Joseph, a friend of more than 20 years.

"The Platypus is the star of the show wherever it goes," Sean said.

"Everybody wants to know about it."

Sean bought the business Ozamphibian almost four years ago and builds from scratch the Platypus based on the new Suzuki Jimny four-wheel drive.

The vehicle seen on the lake is a prototype, with production expected to be in full swing later in the year.

They will be on sale for $55,000 plus GST. For further information, visit www.ozamphibian.com
