SOME scallywag participants might be asked to walk the plank when Anglicare splashes out with its team theme at the Cancer Council's Relay For Life.
Pirates - in the form of the Anglicare Anchors - are preparing to set sail in the name of fun for the major fundraising event at the Equex Centre on March 20 and 21.
Anglicare Anchors will be among several teams dressing up for the occasion.
"The idea stems from a team-building exercise we did many years when we went to the coast and ended up buying a stack of pirate stuff, which we still have," captain Helen Reynolds said.
"We participated in last year's Relay for Life as a work team but this time we wanted to have a bit of fun and dress up for the occasion.
"Our team will be dressing our campsite in the pirate theme and will make our hostages walk the plank for some fun".
Relay For Life is an outdoor, overnight community event where teams consisting of families, friends and workmates take turns to walk or run around a track at the Equex Centre.
All funds raised from Wagga Relay For Life will help fund the Cancer Council's research, support and education programs.
Cancer Council community relations co-ordinator Prue Densley is encouraging teams to follow Anglicare Anchors' lead.
"The Equex Centre, our new home for Relay for Life, allows teams even more room to dress up their campsites and really go to town with their theme this year," Prue said.
"It's great to see people getting into the spirit of this fun festival-style event at Relay for Life this year. There will be loads of colour and fun for everyone to enjoy from the young to young at heart, and with more than 60 teams already registered it's set to be better than ever."
