THE Wagga community has set the bar high with its involvement in Relay For Life during the past eight years.
Cancer Council NSW believes this year’s Relay For Life is on track to surpass previous events.
The goal was to have 115 teams participate and raise $165,000 in the
24-hour relay starting at 9.30am on Saturday at the Equex Centre.
Already 116 teams have registered, with registrations closing online today but also taken on the day.
Cancer Council’s Prue Densley is expecting several new features of the relay to be popular.
“This year we have a new ‘youth zone’ where they can hang out, kick their footies and be generally noisy without bothering people,” Prue said.
“We also have a young relayers area with a jumping castle.
“And there are loads of catering vendors over the 24 hours to keep you awake and full at midnight
“We have also introduced some new fun activities such as ‘Undies Sundie’ – a race at 2am along the track in underpants, which also promotes prostate cancer awareness.”
Registrations can be made online at www.relayforlife.org.au, by collecting a registration form at the Cancer Council’s Tompson Street office or at the Equex Centre on Saturday.
The cost of $20 includes T-shirt, event entry, entertainment, security and
first-aid, and loads of fun
“People are encouraged to attend the event and support their friends and family at relay,” Prue said.
“You only pay if your planning to walk the track and camp overnight.”
