Nancy is talk of the town

21 Jul, 2010 11:10 AM
NANCY Kaur is a country girl at heart, so she did not take a lot of convincing to move back to Wagga.

The 27-year-old has spent five years building a caree

r as a speech pathologist in Sydney, working in clinic, pre-school and school settings.

Nancy has seen a need for her skills in Wagga and has been busy establishing Riverina Speech Pathology, which will open its doors on August 3.

“Knowing there is a shortage of allied health-medical services in the country, providing my services in these areas was something I had always wanted,” she said. “I have been told there is a long waiting list for speech pathology services in Wagga and hopefully I can help out.”

Nancy spent time as a child living in Wagga before moving to Leeton and then completing her speech pathology degree at Charles Sturt University in Albury.

She had a little help with her decision to return to Wagga.

“My husband Dr Amardeep Singh is a dentist by profession and was also keen on the idea of moving out to the country,” Nancy said.

“He is currently working in Wagga and the surrounding areas.”

Riverina Speech Pathology will be based at the Kincaid Medical And Dental Centre in Kincaid Street and will offer expert speech therapy – combining clinical expertise with the best available evidence from research – in schools and preschools for kids and adolescents ranging in ages from 18 months to 19 years.

The service will help youngsters with communication, literacy and learning difficulties such as auditory processing disorder, autism spectrum disorders, delayed language development, delayed speech development, delayed play skills, developmental delay, childhood apraxia of speech, late talkers, reading and spelling difficulties, retelling and writing stories and events, phonological delay, social skills and stutter.

“This practice would strive to maximise the speech and language potential of every client,” Nancy said.

“The therapy sessions would be focused on creating a relaxed, easy-yet-stimulating environment where the new speech and language challenges would be met with confidence.”

Riverina Speech Pathology will be open early next month and can be contacted on 6971 0811 or 0431 110 545.
