Moran gets ready to wiggle in his hometown

06 Feb, 2008 10:41 AM
Sam’s mother Marion and grandmother Dot McCrea still live in Wagga and will attend the Kyeamba Smith Hall for the Pop Go The Wiggles! concert on Wednesday, February 27.

“It will be extra nice to have my mother and grandmother to see the show,” Sam said.

“I grew up in Wagga and it’s definitely exciting to be going back there.”

The 29-year-old left Wagga almost 12 years ago but still has fond memories of the city.

He attended Tolland Public School and Mount Austin and Kooringal high schools.

“I was six-foot tall by the time I was 14 and I can remember playing in the ruck for Mount Austin’s Australian football team,” Sam said.

Sam’s first love was performing and he appeared in musicals for the Wagga School of Arts.

“I had a lot of fun on the stage,” he said.

Sam also played the trumpet in the Riverina Concert Band and at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music.

He has been touring and travelling with the group for the past six years and was handed the yellow skivvy when he replaced Greg Page due to health reasons in 2006.

“I first met The Wiggles 10 years ago and the changes have been gradual for me since becoming the Yellow Wiggle,” Sam said.

One of the biggest changes in Sam’s life has been his marriage to Lyn, who is also a performer with The Wiggles.

“Lyn has been to Wagga a few times to meet family and she is looking forward to getting back there,” he said.

Sam will be joined by Anthony, Jeff and Murray and their Wiggly friends for their first NSW country tour in four years.

“The show is always evolving so it will be a blend of the new and the old,” Sam said.

“There are always the old favourites but there will also be some songs the children may not have heard before.”

And what’s the best part about being a Wiggle? That’s easy for Sam.

“I get a lot of satisfaction out of seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and also seeing the parents smile as they watch their children having a great time,” he said.

Bookings for the concert can be made at the Wagga Showground or on 6925 2180.
