MADELYN Hounsell's uniform is ready and her schoolbag is packed - now all she is waiting for is to hear the school bell ring on Monday morning.
The five-year-old is among hundreds of Wagga children who are eagerly awaiting their first day of kindergarten.
"I'm getting excited about going to school," Madelyn said.
Madelyn will join her sister Isabella, 8, at Henschke Primary.
"I like colouring-in, so I hope we do some on the first day," she said.
Madelyn has prepared for her introduction to "big school" by attending Town and Country Children's Centre and St Luke's Preschool.
Her mother Paula has seen a different side to Madelyn's development in her role as an early childhood teacher.
Paula has no doubts Madelyn will be fine ? she is more worried about herself.
"It's terrible saying goodbye on the first day of school," Paula said.
Paula will go through it all again next year when son Charlie enters kindergarten.
