JACQUI Adams will tomorrow night raise the gavel on what she hopes will be a career as an auctioneer.
The 19-year-old Fitzpatricks Real Estate employee is among the entries in Riverina Division of the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW) Novice Auctioneers Competition.
“I have never done anything like this before, so I am both excited and a little nervous about auctioning in front of a crowd for the first time,” Jacqui said.
“I’ve had a few training sessions and it seems like a lot of fun.
“I am hoping to pursue a career in this line of work, so it will be a great experience for me.”
Novice auctioneers will be required to sell off one item at the charity auction event.
Funds raised on the night will go to Mission Australia’s Wagga Youth Connections – an organisation supporting young people and their families by providing crisis accommodation, counselling, help with education and employment, housing assistance, information and advice and adolescent-focused group programs.
With a place in the prestigious REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition State Final up for grabs, entrants will be judged on their ability to present the item with confidence and poise, how they describe the item and control the bidding, and the correct use of the gavel.
“The competition is a fantastic opportunity for not just budding auctioneers to learn a new skill and step out of their comfort zone, but it’s also a chance to compete at a zone, state and national level where they have the opportunity to meet some of the best auctioneers in the country,” said organiser Andrew McLeod, from Fitzpatricks Real Estate.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the event at the Commercial Club from 6pm tomorrow.
Cost of $20 includes one complimentary drink on arrival and canapes.
