MICK DeVries’ family members consider themselves fortunate to have such a special father in their lives.
But it’s Mick who thinks he is the lucky one.
“I feel privileged that my two children and my five grandkids live in Wagga,” he said.
“The best part is I get to see them all-year round ... there are a lot of people who are not so fortunate.”
“I drove taxis for a number of years and I lost count of how many times I would take someone to the airport so they could go and see their family in Sydney or Brisbane or somewhere even further away.
“I’d really feel for them.”
Mick said it does not have to be Father’s Day for him to appreciate the value of family.
Nevertheless, he will be the centre of attention on Sunday when the day for dads is celebrated.
“Father’s Day is a little more special as you get older as you have the grandkids running around as well,” Mick said.
Mick will share the celebration with his son Greg, who is a father of three.
While Mick’s wish is to spend the day with a quiet family barbecue, Greg is hoping his present will arrive a little later in the month – in the form of a Collingwood premiership.
