It’s important to understand

CANCER touches the lives of so many Wagga residents, prompting countless questions from those battling the disease as well as their family and friends.

Understanding Cancer Day is a free event which provides participants with more information about the disease and the treatment options available.

“This is the third Understanding Cancer Day we have conducted in Wagga and each time we have increased numbers of participants, the feedback we received has been amazing,” the Cancer Council’s south-west office regional program co-ordinator Megan Savin said.

Graham Dodds, who has been diagnosed with cancer, and his wife Maureen travelled from Narrandera to attend the previous event.

“It was great to meet and talk with other cancer patients and carers who are in a similar position,” Maureen said. “Information in relation to diet and financial assistance was very useful.

“And it helps a great deal to know what services are

available for cancer patients.”

The one-day program to be held next Tuesday is led by a trained facilitator with the support of expert guest speakers, such as oncologists, dietitians, psychologists, social workers, cancer care co-ordinators, community health workers and GPs.

Some of the topics covered include treatment options, nutrition, exercise and cancer, financial support, body image and support available.
