FREE health check-ups offered at the Marketplace and Bunnings during the past week have been a huge success.
A total of 76 people took advantage of the opportunity to have a free check-up, with a session held at the Marketplace last week and at Bunnings yesterday.
The tests, run by the Riverina Division of General Practice and Primary Health, were time well spent for many people, with 62 per cent found to be at high risk of developing diabetes.
They were then encouraged to visit their doctor for a referral to the Lifestyle Modification Program.
The next program begins on June 22, and is open to anyone at high risk of diabetes as long as they are referred by their doctor.
The free program includes eight sessions over six months, with a credentialled diabetes educator, accredited practicing dietitian, psychologist and exercise psychologist providing strategies to lead a healthier lifestyle.
It is designed to help prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
Feedback from previous participants in the program has been positive, with the sessions described as well planned and presented.
“The enthusiasm of the various experts and their real knowledge of their area made their segments highly interesting and far more relevant to me,” one participant said.
