Funny Lunatics in the limelight

21 Jul, 2010 11:26 AM
FUNNY and chaotic – what else would you expect from a production titled A Pair Of Lunatics?

Director Irene Robson and performers Anna Pritchard and Adam O’Brien are hard at work rehearsing A Pair Of Lunatics, which will feature at the North Wagga Hall from 8pm tomorrow through to Saturday.

“It is a fantastic, funny, chaotic play, with a refreshing type of humour,” Anna said.

A Pair Of Lunatics is Gearstick Theatre’s first Directors Studio Production.

The Directors Studio Project is providing the opportunity for three emerging directors to work with more experienced directors in developing there skills and then putting them into directing short works.

A Pair of Lunatics tells the comic tale of a man and a woman who meet for the first time in an out-of-the-way section of a lunatic asylum. Each mistakenly believes that the other is one of the inmates of the asylum and they attempt to negotiate their way through this tricky and, as they believe, potentially dangerous situation.

“I am very excited about my first play as a director,” Irene Robson said. “When I first read it I was immediately drawn to the quirky characters and how they get themselves into such awkward moments.”

This will be the first show to be presented by Gearstick at their new home – the North Wagga Hall.

“Presenting a short piece like this allows the audience to see some quality writing and the work of exciting new directors without them having to commit a whole evening,” Gearstick artistic director Kevin Poynter said.

“They can go out for a drink before or after the show, or make it a part of a night on the town.”

Tickets are now on sale at the Civic Theatre booking office on 6926 9680 or www.civictheatre.com.
