IT'S never a piece of cake to lose weight, but a Wagga group has spent decades making the task as easy as possible for its members.
S.O.C.I.A.L Slimmers has been holding its weekly meetings for 37 years and is still going strong with 90 people involved.
"We give advice and encouragement to other members of the group ... there is always someone there to help out," S.O.C.I.A.L Slimmers president Edith Pickford said.
S.O.C.I.A.L stands for Slim Off Calorie Intake And Live, and Edith says the group's simple strategy is one of the reasons for its longevity. "We have nothing to do with exercising or diets ... we put our success down to our roll call," Edith said.
"Every week we stand up in front of the others and give the results of our weigh-in.
"If you gain a kilo it's hard to tell everyone about it, so you are more likely to keep an eye on what you eat during the week."
The group is not all about the waisteline, according to Edith.
"You make lifelong friends through the group and we have women in their 90s who are still going," Edith said. "We also have foundation members who keep coming along, maintaining their weight."
The group meets at the Wagga Commercial Club for a weigh-in at noon each Monday and the holds from 1 to 2pm. For further information, contact Edith on 6931 4403 or Carolyn Shawe on 6931 1912.
