Early intervention solicitor provides family support

19 May, 2010 03:21 PM
LEGAL Aid NSW and Family Relationship Centre Wagga has welcomed Joplin Carpenter as the early intervention solicitor in the region as Law Week is celebrated around the country.

Joplin will be based at Family Relationship Centre on Fitzmaurice Street in the wake of a policy change allowing legal services to be provided through the organisation.

The amendment aims to provide greater support to families in resolving their disputes.

There is no merit test or means test for the free service.

The project is designed to service clients of the Family Relationship Centre, in particular those who do not qualify for legal aid and cannot afford the services of a private solicitor.

Only one party can be advised by the service due to conflicts of interest, with other parties needing to be referred to local legal services.

Joplin will provide free advice sessions for members of the public in family law matters, with appointments generally lasting 20 minutes. Call 0459 070 367 or 6923 9100 to make an appointment with Joplin.

Family Relationships Centre held an event yesterday to coincide with Law Week, which runs from Monday through to Saturday.
