WAGGA'S popular choral singing group The Cantilena Singers have launched their rehearsals for a busy 2010 season and are looking forward to attracting new members and voices to join the choir this year.
The regular practice session next Monday night will invite potential new members to "come and try" and to find out just what choral singing has to offer and is really all about.
In recent years, under the musical direction of Katherine Thompson, the choir has enjoyed great success, which was highlighted when a 30-person touring party travelled to - and performed in - Wagga's sister city, Nordlingen, in Germany in 2007.
Following Katherine's decision to step down at the end of last year, Teresa English has taken over the role of music director, and is quickly establishing her vibrant personality and leadership qualities.
The Cantilenas have a regular core group of around 40 singers getting together for Monday night rehearsals and have several performances in Wagga and throughout the Riverina region mapped out for the year ahead.
Several members of the choir are again heading on a self-funded trip to Nordlingen in Germany for the renowned "Stadtmuaerfest" in September, and will take the opportunity to sing with one of the local church groups during the visit.
If you haven't sung in a choir before but would like to give it a try, Monday is the ideal opportunity to join the growing number of people becoming involved and enjoying, group singing.
Male or female, young or "more mature", the choir welcomes all those who have a genuine passion for choral singing.
The Cantilena Singers are an ensemble of the Riverina Conservatorium of Music with members being conservatorium students, paying a small weekly fee to enjoy the benefits and to cover costs for tutoring and music requirements.
Although originally established more than 33 years ago, there are still several original members singing with the choir today, attesting to the enjoyment they have experienced with the group over an extended period of time.
If it sounds like you, you will be made welcome at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music at the south campus on Monday .
