Candidates to vie for votes

21 Jul, 2010 11:11 AM
READY, set, go – the race to the federal election is under way for the six candidates for the seat of Riverina.

The contenders have less than five weeks to win the support of voters as they vie to take the reins from current federal member Kay Hull, who will retire at the August 21 election.

Michael McCormack is striving to keep the seat for the Nationals.

The Wagga businessman will be pitted against Liberal Party candidate Andrew Negline, ALP’s Robyn Hakelis, the Greens’ David Fletcher, One Nation’s Craig Hesketh and Independent Matthew Hogg.

Although the election was only called at the weekend by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, the electoral roll has already closed.
