Botanic Gardens friends help boost bird numbers

24 Feb, 2010 01:00 AM
THE free flight aviary at the Botanic Gardens is soaring to greater heights courtesy of the contribution of a staunch supporter.

Friends of the Botanic Gardens has contributed to the purchase of additional birds for the aviary.

"This is one of the aims of the friends group," president Gary Croker said. "To be able to provide more interest for those visiting our famous gardens, by adding to the fauna on show, is of special pleasure.

"Hundreds of visitors to Wagga and local residents visit the zoo at the gardens on a regular basis, and it is our aim to ensure such visits are entertaining"

Since the free flight aviary was rebuilt after storm damage, the Wagga City Council has increased the number of species kept at the zoo.

The friends group will be meeting on the first Thursday each month at 2pm at the gardens.
