Far from disheartened by the Roosters' wooden spoon finish last year, he snapped up lucrative odds for his favourite team to win the premiership before the season even kicked off.

"It wasn't a big bet, but I stand to win more than $6500 if they can do it," the punter told The Leader's columnist.

While they are the outsiders against St George Illawarra, the Roosters' price of $2.30 looks far less enticing than what the man claimed early in the year.

"I have been quietly confident all season, but I have found it hard to keep a lid on my excitement since the Roosters' big win over the Titans in the preliminary final," he said.
