DOWN to the Gumly Football Club for the cancelation of our wedding reception venue and catering six weeks before our wedding after telling us the venue was free on that date. (Contributed)
Down to those responsible for the situation our 17-year-old son found himself in recently. He is a new P-plate driver and we consider him not only to be a careful driver, but a responsible citizen of Wagga. He is highly respected by staff at the school he attends and by staff where he is employed part-time. One afternoon he went into town with three mates. He stopped at the pedestrian crossing outside the Marketplace to allow pedestrians to cross. His mates decided to hop out of the car while the car was stopped and then my son proceeded to find a park in the underground car park and meet up with his mates. Three days later he received an infringement notice in the mail for “double parking” and was fined $185. He went to pay the fine on the due date that he had calculated from the date he received the notice and was told it was two days overdue and he could not pay the fine. Nowhere on the notice did it indicate the due date. After calling a number of people he was advised that the 21 days should commence on the receipt of the notice. However, according to our calculations the 21 days commenced on the day the infringement occurred. He now has to wait for another infringement notice to be issued before he can pay the fine. How crazy and unreasonable is this system. We have since found out that getting out of the car is an offence, however, the parking officer can make a discretionary call as to whether it warranted the issuing of a fine. (Contributed)
DOWN to the inconsiderate people who hit my car outside Johnny Roy’s Hairdressers on January 2 and never left any details. Not only did you know you hit it, you even got out and picked up the broken tail light to try and hide it even more. I have been to the police, who now have your fingerprints. If you have any decency you can contact The Leader office by Friday, February 1, or the police will be visiting you as they know who you are. (Contributed)
DOWN to the deterioration of Wagga’s main street. It has been 30 years since we lived in Wagga and had a restaurant in the D’Hudson Arcade. Our visit was to a newborn in the Calvary Hospital. I felt dismayed and saddened, my expectations somewhat raised by family saying “you should see it now”. We did, there are shops and more shops and some trees in the main strip. The brightest, most presentable is Michael Knight’s shop. As for the river, the only natural asset, is sad. I walked from north to south and back to town, you have degraded even your umbilical cord, the river. I
had faint hope it might have been the centre and pride of the town. Goodbye for at
least another 30 years. (Contributed)
DOWN to those making nuisance phone calls. I receive at least three per week. At times I am seated on the toilet, at other times, on my sick bed and just manage to answer the telephone on the third ring. These “nuisance” calls are an embarrassment. (Contributed)
DOWN to a local fitness centre who let go of one of their best staff members. It was a shock to discover that their only qualified employee had been told to leave. She was inspirational, motivational, encouraging, even considering her recent tragedies. She was a top, healthy, fit role model. I will follow her on her new journey as I know other members will also. Good luck finding a replacement with the same experience and desire to help others. (Contribute)
