Thumbs Down for 13/2/08

DOWN to the driver of a white ute on a recent Monday afternoon in the Kooringal Mall car park. You are driving in a car park, not a race track. You nearly ran me over and didn’t even stop to say sorry. That would have been a lovely sight for the little girl in your car and all of the pedestrians to see if I had not of jumped back as quickly as I did. Even other cars stopped to see if I was OK, but not you, you just kept driving. (Contributed)

DOWN to a local clothes shop’s seven-day return policy and unhelpful attitude. Perhaps you could consider telling your customers that you have this policy at the time of purchase, rather than return. Your policy doesn’t work for people who do their Christmas shopping early or have to travel to have Christmas with their family. It must be nice for you to be making so much money you don’t need return customers, I won’t be back. (Contributed)

DOWN to the pizza shop who advertises cheap pizzas only to be charged the full cost unless you mention the advertising. I went to pick up a pizza and was charged $9.95. I said to the girl behind the counter I thought the pizzas were $5.95 to which she replied – you need to mention you saw the staff outside with the advertising placards to receive the discount. DOWN to the people who drive fast into and around the Marketplace car park, you are an accident waiting to happen. (Contributed)

DOWN to the owner of a smoky blue coloured kitten with a red collar found in the Kooringal area. If you have lost a cat with this description, call 6922 6625. (Contributed)

DOWN to the compiler of The Leader TV guide who appears to not realise that Wagga is served by nine free-to-air channels, not five. (Contributed)

DOWN to the garbage collector of our household waste recently. Not content with dropping a bag from my bin onto the nature strip, you promptly upended my bin with such force that another bag was thrown over the top of the truck and onto the road, almost causing an accident as a car had to veer toward the other side of the road into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting it. Perhaps if you stopped the truck before picking up the bins you might not loose so much rubbish. (Contributed)

DOWN to the person who stole the bell from Forest Hill Public School. I’m personally disgusted that this sort of thing happens in a country town. We’ve moved here from Sydney and have enjoyed what we consider to be a safe community. Our babies starting school don’t understand and want to know why someone took the bell. The kids at the school have enjoyed picking someone to ring the bell each day so in effect whoever stole it has personally hurt our children and taken away something which is an integral part of each day. DOWN to the Wagga City Council, for the neglect of the Monumental Cemetery on Kooringal Road. Council’s own website states, "In this cemetery, Council’s responsibility is simply to maintain the grounds and the opening and closing of graves." On a recent visit with my grandmother to visit family graves the grounds were covered in long grass and bindii eyes. There is a distinct lack of bins and taps for people to use when maintaining their own family sites. The long grass made it anything but a pleasant experience to peruse and reflect on this historic part of our city. Approx 20 people are still buried in this cemetery annually, these and existing graves deserve the same respect and maintenance of those people buried at the lawn cemetery. With no doubt many past rate payers are buried there. I wonder what they would think. (Contributed)

OWN to the fast food restaurant near the Marketplace who served a pubic hair in my salad. I will not be visiting the store again as I find it dirty, disgusting and very unhygienic. (Contributed)

DOWN to the red P-plate driver who overtook across double white lines last week. Maybe you should revise the rules in the RTA Learner’s Handbook in regards to overtaking another vehicle before your loved ones or another unfortunate family receive a telephone call they would dread. (Contributed)

DOWN to the mindless moronic twit(s) who stole the school bell from Forest Hill Public School. The large bronze bell was a much-loved fixture with 30+ years of service. The individual(s) responsible are not representative of the wider Forest Hill community who are honest and have, for the most part, a strong sense of community and a great deal of respect for their little school. If anybody has information as to the current location of the bell, please contact Forest Hill Public School or Wagga Police. (Contributed)
